2020–2021 · DigiPen Institute of Technology – SIT, Year 1 Semester 2 · Team project · Role: Team Lead & Coordinator, Gameplay / Core Programmer
Second team game project of the degree, delivered at the end of Semester 2 (Jan–Apr 2021). The step up from Build A Robot was as much organisational as technical — this time I ran the team as well as writing gameplay code.
Role and responsibilities
Team lead and coordinator, while also serving as a core gameplay programmer:
- Ran team coordination — task breakdown, scheduling against milestones, and keeping the project on track for submission
- Implemented core gameplay systems and the player-facing mechanics
- Acted as the point of contact between programming, design, and art, resolving cross-discipline blockers
- Debugged and stabilised the build ahead of each milestone
Learning outcomes
- Leading a team while still owning code — the first time I had to balance my own deliverables against unblocking everyone else’s
- Task breakdown and scheduling against hard milestone deadlines, including cutting scope when it stopped fitting
- Coordinating across programming, design, and art disciplines with genuinely different priorities
- Building gameplay systems the rest of the team could extend without going through me
